Why I Have Ads on My Personal Blog

Nobody’s actually asked me, but I thought I’d explain in case somebody ever did. *shrug*

I have ads on my personal blog for two reasons:

I like to endorse things that interest me.

The crunchy roll banner you see is an affiliate banner, and I absolutely love that website. It’s awesome. I can find new anime or watch hours of Naruto or find deals on otaku crap. It’s great. And to show how great it is, I put a banner on my blog. I’ll probably do that with other stuff if it’s relevant to a general audience (or whatever kind of audience would read my journal), but for right now that’s it.

I think banners are pretty.

That’s a serious statement. I think banner ads look nice. So I have Project Wonderful ads up on the right side, to generate fractions of cents and because they fill the space nicely, in my mind. I could load it up with “connect with me” widgets and random badges, but that would slow the site down. Fast loading personal stories about my life accompanied by pretty, probably unrelated graphics. What more could you want?

Oh and just in case you were wondering, banner design is hard. I look at hundreds of banners a day in envy. Just sayin’
