Some of you will know that I was excited about the possibility of an investor for my newest project, CloudReve (cloudrehv). However, I’m turning that deal down.

The Importance of Listening to Your “Gut”

As conceited as it may sound, I have people asking to “get in” on a lot of my projects. However, none of them have ever offered me money before. Unfortunately, you can’t pay me enough for the right to take over my project’s direction.

I don’t really care what his “mentor” said. I did not approach him, he wanted to invest in the site’s future. That’s great, but why the hell would you look at a project and think “that’s working great, let’s change it!” What few glimpses of valuable ideas he had were ones already down on paper.

CloudReve is not and has never been a “self-help” site. The point is to get support for your goals from a community. Not to randomly broadcast your dreams out to social networks and tell people how accomplished you are. It’s motivation through emotional and group support.

My gut says that with the proper planning, saving, and application, money will come. It has before, it continues to do so, it will again.

So I’m sitting at my laptop before psychology class (ironic?) trying to write the about section for my sexy new Minus the Pie Media website, when I think to myself:

Corey….what the hell do we do at MTPM?

We being the manifestation of myself and my inner self, who constantly yells at me about things like eating proper food and being nice to my roommate and starting laundry a few hours earlier. But that is beside the point…

So far, I’ve got my life planned out like this:

Do what I love (build websites)

Start a business

???

Become a billionaire

While tried and true, this method doesn’t really hold much weight when trying to explain and define what you spend all of your time in your room doing on the weekends. And as one of my favorite bloggers and buddies, Jim Conolly, says:

When you are unclear about your commercial end game, you make it massively more difficult to succeed.

What Does Your Company Do?

Seriously, I want to know! If you’re just starting out online and trying to build a brand name, what does your company do? What is its mission, its purpose?

I really don’t! I want to keep developing CloudReve and the new version of Headway Hub and the Minus the Pie Media homepage! I want to toss around ideas for development and complete the investment deal that’s on the table. I want to keep moving forward with my business.

Unfortunately, the sneezing and feeling of impatience and anxiety may just be my body’s way of begging for a good night’s sleep. And possibly a home-cooked meal. College food is killing me. You know what I miss? Meatloaf.

Updates on CloudReve

I’m actually ahead of schedule with CloudReve development so once I finish the contact and about pages on the blog, it will be 100% ready for public viewing. I keep telling myself I will not invest in advertising or serious promotion until all of the foundation is laid. It’s torturous, but so far, everything is really coming together.

This is probably my most complete project ever.

If the investment deal goes through, I’ll be able to hire some coders to help with API creation and ajax integration – two things on the top of my list for feature additions. Having the site feel more dynamic and giving users the ability to get support for their goals on their own websites is a really important concept for the development of CR.

I’ve also been mulling over the idea of changing the name. I don’t actually know what it would be changed to, though. I’ve been trying to think of more “web 2.0″ style names (so basically, removing vowels wherever possible) but dream is a hard word for that kind of shortening. Any other name changes would be just as long as the cloudreve.com domain. Difficult position, neh?

…aaaannndddd that’s about it. It’s bedtime.

So finally there are only 2 application pages (and a forgotten password function…) that need to be created and CloudReve will be a fully functional website! It’s interesting to think that for the last month and a half this “mini project” came and took precedent over my Blog Heroes browser game and somewhat over my successful Headway Hub blog.

The design by Kyee really makes the whole thing stand out, and it’s really easy to apply across pages. I definitely plan on hiring him again to help me out with polishing future projects. Probably this blog, soonish.
